About this Research Topic

Abstract Submission Deadline 25 October 2022
Manuscript Submission Deadline 24 December 2022

As engineering equipment is generally applied in harsh environments with heavy load, cyclic stress, and a wide range of temperatures, the reliability of the equipment becomes challenging, especially when wear contact is involved. Hence, the design and exploitation of advanced material surface may hold the key to control and minimize friction and wear in the transmission system for safety-critical applications.

High Entropy Alloys (HEAs) or Multi-Component Alloys have been proved to have outstanding mechanical properties, corrosion resistance, high-temperature, and oxidation resistance. They can be potentially used as wear resistance and friction reduction coatings.
The goal of this Research Topic is to gain a better understanding on the properties and development of HEAs coating systems for tribological application, as well as the advantages and limitations when prepared by different methods.

We are interested in collecting manuscripts regarding the correlation between composition, mechanical properties, and friction, as well as wear characteristics of these coatings. Research articles, review articles and short personal communications are acceptable article types.
We are interested in the following deposition methods, as they are more widely used in wear-resistant and friction-reducing coatings:
-Magnetron sputtering
-Laser cladding
-Thermal spraying

Keywords: Preparation, Applications, High Entropy, Coatings, Tribology, Alloys

Important Note: All contributions to this Research Topic must be within the scope of the section and journal to which they are submitted, as defined in their mission statements. Frontiers reserves the right to guide an out-of-scope manuscript to a more suitable section or journal at any stage of peer review.
