About this Research Topic

Abstract Submission Deadline 29 October 2022
Manuscript Submission Deadline 28 December 2022

Recognizing the future leaders in the study of Structural Materials is fundamental to safeguarding tomorrow's driving force in research and innovation.

Here we present the article collection ‘The Future of Structural Materials: An Early Career Scientists’ Perspective’.

This collection welcomes perspective and opinion article types from early career scientists that wish to share their opinion on the future of the Structural Materials field. Contributors to this collection are also encouraged to submit other article types if preferred to present advances in theory, experiment, and methodology with applications to compelling problems. We aim to highlight the perspective and research of the leading scientists of the future across the entire breadth of Structural Materials:

• Cement and concrete

• Masonry

• Structural ceramics

• Glass for use in structural applications

• Ferrous metals

• Non-ferrous metals for use in structural applications

• Structural polymer composites

• Geomaterials

• Wood-based structural materials

While future innovations in Structural Materials are yet to be discovered, this Research Topic will give us a hint at what to expect.

Keywords: Structural Materials, cement, masonry, structural ceramics, glass, ferrous metals, non-ferrous metals, alloys, polymer composites, geomaterials

Important Note: All contributions to this Research Topic must be within the scope of the section and journal to which they are submitted, as defined in their mission statements. Frontiers reserves the right to guide an out-of-scope manuscript to a more suitable section or journal at any stage of peer review.
